Sorry to hear that - I just got over bronchitis, spent a good 4 weeks
with a nagging cough. This afternoon, started getting a scratchy throat.
    Crap.

My mom is 86, we always try and quarantine around her if we have any
symptoms near the holidays. She broke her hip and elbow and is in a
rehab facility now, we're looking into assisted living for her when she
gets out. Luckily for her, everyone is masking at the facility. Fingers
    crossed that she stays healthy.

It's a chest cold turning into bronchitis. Nothing new for me but
    definitely not something I like.

At that age, even a cold can be bad news. Hope she continues to do better. Assisted living might be a good option. It helped my late paternal
grandmother live a good life until she passed at the age of 99.

Of course the doughnut has to be made with Whole Wheat Flour, doesn't it?

Yeah, we're hoping to get her some assistance with scheduling, meals,
and having some social outlets. She had a hard time meeting people
living alone, the places we've looked at have had a lot of activities
(both mental and social) for her.

I've made them with rice flour, almond flour, and a combo of a bunch

    good!

    Hi everyone,

I was at Walmart the other day and they already are setting up Valentine's
Day candy and goods. Everything is just so damn commercialized these days.

Well.. if you owned a retail biz that relies on some Valentines
Day placements, like flowers, candies, cards, gifts.. you might
    succumb to the same thing.

Dropping Christmas-themed things and putting up Valentines Day
things 4 weeks prior seems like a good business plan to me. ;)

I worked in retail in the late 1980s (Target). Seems like we took a break between most holidays, although we did always seem to start the mix of Thanksgiving and Christmas right after Halloween stuff was put away.

OTOH, Valentines is just over a month away so I am guessing we'd have been putting stuff out for it soonish after Christmas return season was over.

Odd, since it's all about perishable holiday goods. Who wants six
    week-old candy for Valentine's Day?

I worked at a last-minute gift ecommerce site. Our all-hands-on-deck
time started before thanksgiving, stretched into the holiday season,
took a slight break then went into Valentine's Day, Mother's Day and
Father's Day - it wasn't until June we got to take a break and focus on
    the upcoming busy season.

That I can understand but when the next holiday is seven weeks away...I have worked in retail a lot, including Target in the early 2000s an Walmart
several times from 1998-2005, and while I understand the need to get stuff
out quickly, it must be me about rushing things.

No, I think you are right. They do seem to rush things out sooner than
they used to. If they were allowed to sell fireworks, they'd probably have them out as soon as Easter was over. ;)

I used to work for a major supermarket chain in Ireland and they did the same. The issue is real estate. The bigger the holiday the more space required so things get into store earlier and earlier
