    I don't recall a death on there..

    They killed his character on the series. It has been so long since it aired here that I don't remember the specifics, but his characters was murdered on the show.

    Looked that up.. apparently he was stabbed with an ice pick at a
    school reunion.. I guess they wanted to make sure if he was leaving,
    he would stay gone..

    I don't recall seeing that episode so it must be one I missed.

    I was watching some of the newest episodes of that this week,
    although I think I liked the older seasons characters better..

    Yeah, that sounds familiar. When I saw it, I didn't know he was leaving the show so it was a shock. After he left, our local PBS network showed the rest of that season and then didn't show any more. I didn't realize it had continued on until much more recently.
