As the ice freezes, it lifts and climbs as it "expands".

For a second, I thought you were gonna say, "lifts and seperates". ;)

Now I know how old you might be. :D

"The phrase **"lifts and separates"** became famous in the
**mid-1950s** as part of a major advertising campaign by the
lingerie brand **Playtex** for its *Cross Your Heart* bra.
Playtex launched this bra in **1954**, and the slogan "lifts
and separates" was widely used in its marketing - including in
TV commercials starting in **1955**, when Playtex became one of
the first brands to mention underwear on television. ([underpinningsmuseum.com][1])"

"Because that advertising was so memorable, the phrase entered
broader popular culture around that time and has been
referenced ever since in contexts talking about bra design and
    support. ([adglitz.com][2])"

I was meaning to mention to you, last week a new TV show came out
and it's an American remake of Doc Martin called Best Medicine.

It takes place in a small oceanside town in Maine (actually filmed
in New York), and it is pretty much the exact story, skilled Doctor
Martin Best takes up a practice in the small town after losing his
surgery posting at a big hospital when he developes a debilitating
fear of blood.. It's on Tuesdays here on standard channels (CTV).

    Yes, I have been watching.

    *spoilers*

The first episode did seem very much like the first episode of the
original, but there were a few subtle differences -- Louisa and Marks' involvement level is different, and it sounds like there is a bigger story behind how Martin developed his fear of blood.

The previews for the rest of the season make it look like at least one
other storyline will be taken directly from the original but it was not a first-season storyline... it was one from towards the end that temporarily removed him from practice.

I am looking forward to seeing where this version goes.

It's so long since I saw the originals, if I ever did from S1E1,
that I don't recall exactly what started that going.

Yes, they will likely just take a few ideas from the original and
then come up with their own stories. I've only seen the first
episode so far. I have the second recorded but didn't get to it yet.

At least I hope I got it.. The PVR says I do but it's lied to
me before, and that was on the night when my power went off
    for 5 1/2 hours..

I watched episode 2 last night. I think they even half stole some
of that one from the original. I seem to recall Doc Martin going
to the school where Louisa taught and almost closing the place
down due to some illness going around, although I don't remember
anything about a Bean supper.. B)

I was also going to mention.. Do you watch Death in Paradise?

The new season they are replacing the Police Inspector again, this
time with a black actor.. This means that all the main characters
on the show are now black. Funny, it never struck me when there was
the one white cop there but it sort of stands out now..

Tonight there was some mention of them maybe getting rid of the
Police Commissioner so I don't know if he will be gone or if
they will find a way to stop that. It's like a downsizing of the
police force on the island, not a replacement..

*SPOILERS* for anyone watching Best Medicine!

They borrowed some stuff but IIRC most of it turned out much different.
Peter Crunk is a character from the original. The confrontation at the
school was more amicable than on the original. I am not sure what episode
it happened in, but there was also one where he tried to cancel a bayside
party because the person that was throwing it (and the meat being served)
was infected with something. I suspect that is where the almost
cancelled Bean supper might have come from. Baked beans are a New England thing.

There was also a parallel between the original... Bert fakes a serious
injury to make a jab at the doc for having blood phobia... vs. him having
a real one (and not knowing about the phobia).

Also thought our first introduction to Mrs. Tishell... erm, Mrs. Milo...
was interesting. I like that actress but I wonder if she's had to act
with a neck brace before. She seemed to be able to move her neck a lot.
I think she has played some eccentric characters in the past. ;)

I did, but our PBS affiliates quit showing that one during (or at the end
of) the second Inspector's tenure. I was surprised to hear it is still
going, and that there have been at least two spin-offs. ;)
