• Fossil issue

    From Doctor Wade@618:300/50 to Andrew Leary on Wed Oct 18 10:59:00 2023
    Hi Andrew:
    I tried to follow as closely as I could your suggestions for using a fossil with OS/2 4.52. I made the following changes:
    config.sys >
    device=C:\sio2k\sio2k.sys Os2Shares
    device=C:\sio2k\vx00.sys

    elconfig > messages > c:\ele\ice.cmd *N *M *H

    ice.cmd >
    @echo off
    cd \ele
    c:\ele\iceedit.exe

    IceEdit config drop down menu is set to use door.sys drop file but I have
    tried it with door32.sys as well

    What I get is when a user enters a message I see IceEdit load on the local
    side for about a second and then returns to the message menu. On the remote
    end it shows "message aborted" and returns to the message menu. In the brief instance that IceEdit loads I can see "carrier lost" in the bottom corner of the icedit screen. I am pretty sure that OS/2 is not passing the port over to IceEdit.

    Any suggestions you or any other members can point me to my error would be appreciated.

    Maybe dorinfo1.def? It doesn't support door32.sys.

    It's been a good while, but I had similar issues several years ago
    trying to get IceEdit to work with Telegard/2 under OS/2. I messed with
    it for a good while, but never got it to work. So I gave up and just
    started using the build in editor. Would have been nice to get iceedit
    working.

    I know it did work back 20 years ago when I was only using dialup.

    Try something that Andrew has working, it might be IceEdit.

    Is there a suggested editor that is known to work? I just sent him dctedit
    and the dictionary for it if that will work any better. Perhaps the full screen eleedit will work for him. I think it's built in, though I don't know how feature-full it is.

    I've been writing BBS doors since 1998 and my BBS doors are written with
    the same doorkit that was used for the Ice Technology doors.

    What your problem is with IceEdit is it is not getting the information
    it needs from your BBS. I -strongly- recommend you use DORINFO1.DEF.
    My doors are picky about DOOR.SYS and if your BBS software is not
    outputting a full 52-line DOOR.SYS (many do not), stick with
    DORINFO1.DEF.

    Thanks Sean, I have tried DORINFO1.DEF with no luck. I have added /N:1 /P:2 /B:115200 (also tried/B:57600) to my .cmd file and have the same "connection lost" from IceEdit. I am no expert but it seems to me that OS/2 is not
    sharing or passing the port over to IceEdit for whatever fossil or config
    I have.

    Asking a few basics:

    - Do you have VX00.SYS defined in CONFIG.SYS?
    - I assume you have SIO2K configured correctly since you've talked to Andrew.
    - Are you passing the proper node number to the door from your BBS? You should NOT need to pass the port to yoiur door manually as it should read it from the dropfile.
    - If running multinode, are you ensuring that you are putting each node's dropfiles in their own directory?
    - If you are trying to run this locally through your BBS, you need to add /L to the command line.

    I can tell you with 100% certainty that the door is not pulling the information from the dropfile because it can't find it. It is not the fault of the door.

    What BBS software are you using?

    Lock your BPS rate no higher than 57600 for Ice Tech doors.

    Again, you should NOT need to add any of this additional info on the command line! You should only have the node number and the path and dropfile name and the door will get the rest from your dropfile.

    I am the same, not sure what is available to him. With Telegard I am

    EleBBS Uses that to distinguish Telnet connections. He's using /B:57600 to force 57600 to the door, so I doubt that's the problem.

    Well, this discussion needs to be moved to MIN_BBS because it's evidenly an issue between the BBS and the door, not OS/2.

    I have used IceEdit for years under OS/2 with several different BBS software packages without issue and I know OS/2 nor SIO/VMODEM are the issue here.
