Test

If this goes out, it'll be a miracle. Has anyone else had problems
connecting to hub.awesomenet.us? I've been getting periodic messages, but
have been unable to connect myself to it for Micronet or FU-Net. I emailed Rick Smith and he's evidently not seeing my emails either. I'm not having problems with any other nets or email addresses.

Thanks for the heads-up. The clone area option is good for a lot of network settings, but not all of them apparently. I can't see the tag line on messages I post locally, so that was a help. All the other networks have the correct origin lines, but I didn't use the nifty clone option on them :-) I also took the time to disable the silly avatar, as I forgot I had it enabled.

Ok, I had to fiddle a little with the outbound directories to get this to
work with fastecho. exec is still not running commands when detected files
are incoming. Outbound and inbound works, I don't know if netmail is working or not.

I struggle with netmail myself. While I'm using D'Bridge right now with it's version of BinkD. I'm currently working on setting up regular binkd so I'll be able to help more in a little bit. I'm jsut doing it because I want to find the perfect setup for me. LOL

If it comes in I will do so right away. As of now it hasn't come through. I do know netmail with Sean Dennis works so if it ends up here it will get tossed.

You can grab the latest Micronet BinkD nodelist on my board.
If it becomes too much, you could set up Squish/GoldEd and use FTP here.
That's what I'll do if I ever make good on my threats to shut down my BBS...

Yeah... I really only need to netmail you, then it's your problem to route
it. hahahahaha

I've got binkd working now and I toss with either DB or fastecho both are setup. Mostly I am using DB for all mail duty and it's working pretty well. I've never been one to like the *.msg but I will admit, it's as fast as anything
else on modern computers. :)
That's what I'll do if I ever make good on my threats to shut down my BBS...
FTP is a pain in the bum. :) I'm trying to script my qwk/rep stuff with Pharcyde
but not having luck getting a client to deal with the pause when synchronet creates the qwk packet.

The message I received here looks like it was truncated at the first displayed origin line in the message. In this case it was the "Awesome Net" one.
Similar messages I've seen over on fsxNet show both the quoted origin line and the clearing houz origin line.
I'm wondering if replacing the * in the quoted origin line, or a > at or near the beginning of the line would help?

Howdy,
I'm wondering if replacing the * in the quoted origin line, or a > at or near the beginning of the line would help?
Yup, it was a bad idea to include an origin line (in its original format) in the middle of the message.
I remember thinking to not do that - but I must have been distracted and its got implemented.
I havent added a > or replaced the * (I know some others do that) - I've just ommitted the "* Origin:" text completly (since it is in a header that says its the origin).
Hopefully this fixes it...

In GoldEd/GoldEd+, there are options to replace "---" and "*" with "-+-" and "+". Just a humble suggestion. If you just add a ">", the origin line
will uasually still be intrepreted. If you look in my replies to test
messages in here using MultiMail, I manally modify the quoted origin and

Is there any docs or specs on FTP for FTN?

Not that I know of. Some systems use "busy locks" (like Windows) with FTP,
but that's it.
For my system under Slackware Linux, I create a special user for the node
using FTP that has no login capability. I set them up to have an inbound
and outbound directory. MBSE will put their new mail in the outbound
directory and receive their mail using an inbound directory.
If you're interested, the MBSE manual discusses this:
http://bbs.outpostbbs.net/mbseman/setup/nodes.html
Look under "8. Directory session". It shows how to set the node's internal
set up using proftpd.
I actually prefer using FTP for mail. I used it for a good while when I was
a Fidonet point in 1996. My friend that I got my point from got rid of his POTS line and wrote a REXX script to handle moving mail via FTP as I was
using OS/2 Warp 4 at the time. I bought Internet Rex two years later. The
FTP script was always reliable for me.
Don't get me wrong: BinkP works fine. I just have fond memories of using
FTP back in my halcyon days in being a sysop.

I opted for proftpd as well and use its "virtual user" functionality.
With hpt I just need to tell it to put everything in a filebox for that node or point:
link Test Node
aka 618:400/23
ouraka 618:400/1
packer none
password <p@$$w0rd>
flavour hold
accessgrp C
filebox /home/ubuntu/fido/filebox/micronet_z618n400n23/out
fileboxalways on
tickerpacktobox on
The only "gotcha" is for some reason hpt will only put echomail, tic files & their associated files in the filebox. Netmail is still packed to the regular outbound, but it's easy enough to watch for those files and move them to the filebox, e.g:
[ -f ~/fido/outbound.26a/01900017.hut ] && mv ~/fido/outbound.26a/01900017.hut ~/fido/filebox/micronet_z618n400n23/out/$(gnmsgid).pkt
The ftp home directory is (chroot'ed to) ~/fido/filebox/micronet_z618n400n23, hpt puts everything in ./out and I link ./in to hpt's secure inbound.
I use .ftpaccess files to make sure they can't write to ./ or ./out (but can delete files from ./out). For ./in I make sure they can't see or read any files but are able up upload (but not overwrite) files.
I still need to find a way to create a semaphore file when someone logs out of proftd. There is an "ExecOnExit" but these are limited to the user's chrooted path.
